Hawalli governorate: Salmiya, Hawally, Jabriya
Salmiya is lively, with shopping streets, restaurants and the seafront, and is popular with expats. Hawally is dense and central with many apartment blocks and shops. Jabriya is a mix of residential streets and is known for its medical facilities nearby.
Farwaniya governorate
Farwaniya and nearby areas are busy and commercial, close to the airport and major roads, and home to many Arab and Asian communities. Expect crowded streets and strong demand for apartments.
Ahmadi governorate: Fahaheel, Mangaf, Mahboula, Abu Halifa
The southern coast has a large expat population, including a big Indian community, plus a long seafront. These areas are often chosen for lower rents and for workplaces in the south, but the drive to Kuwait City can be long at rush hour.
How to choose
Start from your workplace and test the commute at the actual time you will travel. Then compare noise, parking, building condition, lift reliability and internet options. Use the rent affordability calculator and contract checklist before you pay a deposit.
Quick checklist
- Test the commute on a weekday at rush hour.
- Visit the area in the evening to judge noise and parking.
- Ask whether water, electricity and AC maintenance are included.
- Never pay a deposit before seeing a written contract.
