How zakat is calculated here

Zakat al-mal is generally 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth, provided it has reached the nisab and has been held for one full lunar year (hawl). The nisab is commonly taken as 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. Scholars and institutions differ on which basis to use, so choose the one your scholar or zakat authority recommends. Gold and silver prices change daily, which is why you enter today's price per gram in KWD.

Important note

This tool gives an estimate, not a religious ruling. Views differ on items such as personal jewellery, retirement savings and which debts to deduct. For a ruling on your situation, ask a qualified scholar or contact the Kuwait Zakat House (Bayt al-Zakat).

Frequently asked questions

What is the nisab?

The nisab is the minimum amount of wealth above which zakat becomes due. It is commonly set at the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. The two bases give different amounts, so check which one your scholar or zakat authority uses.

Which debts can I deduct?

Generally debts that fall due soon, such as instalments owed within the coming year. Scholarly views differ on long-term debts, so ask a qualified scholar if your case is not simple.

Do I pay zakat on personal gold jewellery?

Views differ between schools of thought. Some exempt jewellery worn regularly, while others include it. Enter jewellery under gold only if your scholar advises including it.
